Online Concept Art Program
Build a high quality concept art portfolio in 18 monthsTeacher Artwork by Elton Lo
WHAT IS THE NEW ONLINE CONCEPT ART PROGRAM ?
Our Online Concept Art Program was redesigned to align closely with our Montreal AEC program.
Program Features
ACCESSIBILITY
The new version of the program has a more accessible entry level. The first term is dedicated to revision and reinforcement of fundamentals, and is essential to consolidate solid foundations to build upon.
TRAINING FROM EXPERIENCED ARTISTS
During the course of this program, you will receive intense, focused and highly relevant training from experienced concept artists and illustrators currently working in the entertainment industry.
GENERALIST PORTFOLIO BUILDING
We understand the importance of building a generalist portfolio that showcases versatility and marketability. By the end of the 18 months program, you will build a high quality concept art portfolio displaying an IP that you develop.
BUDGET
The program is entirely online, so it offers a great alternative to students who want to get the same education as our AEC program, but cannot afford to move and live in another country.
STUDY PERMIT
The program does not require any Canadian study permit, it thus allows students from countries who face challenges in obtaining study permits to access the same education as our Montreal AEC Program.
NO FRENCH REQUIRED
It is now required from any student who wants to validate their AEC to pass a French test. Consequently, students who speak French or are committed to learning French have priority access to our AEC program. The Online Concept Art Program is a perfect alternative to our AEC program for anyone who doesn't speak French and doesn't have the time or the will to learn it.
TIME MANAGEMENT
All of our classes are recorded, ensuring that regardless of your time zone or schedule constraints, you have access to lectures, demos, feedback on your work and resources.
How is it different from the AEC
Other than the features listed above, one of the significant differences between the onsite programs is that the AEC involves developing yourself within the Montreal industry, with, for example, meetings with local industry players, studio visits and more courses linked to integration into companies.
The AEC program also offers workshops based on teamwork and work environment situations that are not possible in an online format.
Finally, the final Portfolio Project of the AEC program is more extensive. At the end of their studies, the AEC students will present a portfolio that not only includes the IP they have developed, but also some work on different IPs and some teamwork projects.
Students that complete the Online Concept Art Program will receive a certificate of completion. This is not an accredited program, so the certificate received is not recognized by higher educational institutions. However, when applying for work in the industry, the primary factor in getting a job is showing and producing a strong portfolio.
Program Curriculum
Building upon the lessons learned in the previous term, students will explore the importance of concept ideation, advanced anatomy studies, further explorations into the use of 3D in the industry, colour and light theory and effective visual communication.
The portfolio project is introduced in this term, and students will begin to delve into character, environment, and prop design fundamentals while furthering their understanding of visual communication. This term will serve as a period to develop their project world building and prepare for the terms ahead.
Students will begin their portfolio project, using this term to advance their design skills to begin bringing their world to life. Through constructive feedback and paintovers from instructors, students hone their abilities to conceptualize and execute compelling characters, environments, and props.
As students transition into the fifth term, they focus on bridging their skills with industry demands and expectations, while also continuing to create additional assets for their portfolio.
In the final term, students consolidate their learning and focus on portfolio development to showcase their work. Through further developing their characters, environments, and prop designs, students refine their artistic vision, storytelling abilities, and technical skills. Guidance from industry professionals and peer feedback facilitate the creation of a professional portfolio that reflects each student's unique style and capabilities.
