Opening for Henry Wolfe

May 23rd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I’m very excited about tomorrow night (Tues. May 24th). I’m opening for a wonderful artist named Henry Wolfe. Henry’s music to me is a Tom Waits bar room 1900s crawl at times and other times filled with lovely beatlesque happenings. I even feel a bit of Wings and Paul Simon happening from time, which really hits a happy nerve for me. Check him out here .

The show starts at 9pm.

Hope you can make it. It is sure to be a fun time.

I was lucky to play a great event this past Sunday night. Our friend Nora is a wonderful supporter of live and original music in Indianapolis. For her birthday, a bunch of us musicians, writers and performers got together to pay her tribute. I was lucky enough to be included in a short list of those Nora called her favorite performers. I was joined on stage by the wonderfully talented Brett Cantrell, the wildly personable Leroy McEllhiney, and the guitarest guitarist John Byrne. Tim Wilsbach not only recorded the performance, but hopped up to add an amazing backing vocal to the performance. Here’s a bit of Broken Bottles from the show. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed playing:

This Saturday April 30th I’ll be performing with The Citizens Band for the first time in 7 years. If you’re not familiar with what we do, here’s a sample:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Some call it Alt-country, Americana, and I just like to think of it as high-energy rock n roll.
I’ve been rehearsing for the past couple of weeks with 2 of the 3 of the 4 of us. And, I gotta say, I’ve had a blast. These are songs that I definitely had to dust off. But, it’s been worth every swipe. My good friends in CB and I shared some of the best times in my life. It’s evident in the way we perform together, in the songs we wrote and they way we laugh, drink and carry on every time we hang out. I hope you’ll join us at Birdy’s this weekend and I hope that our spirit is contagious.

Flat 12 Bierworks

You might have noticed this new place on my calendar and wondered, what the heck? Flat 12 Bierworks is a great new brewery in downtown Indianapolis. In fact, they are within spitting distance of my house. My good friend Tad Armstrong and I have been playing there for a few months now. They have a really cool tap room where they sell pints of great beer and where you can hang out and sometimes hear us play. We are now going to play there the second Friday of every month. So, keep us on your calendar, or keep an eye on mine here.

April 29thHey Folks, I’m playing at Birdy’s this Thursday as Brian Deer and the Achievers. After our set I will be singing with ESW.

ESW has brilliantly decided to add some vocals/lyrics to their new album. The results are stupendous. With Kelsey Smith, Jane Jensen, Dave Barajas(State) and myself contributing our own vocal styles, this show is sure to be a journey. This show is an outstanding warm up for a recording that’s sure to be a great listen.
